He Is Watching Over Me

It was a beautiful, crisp morning in Milner, even though I’d barely slept the night before. I couldn’t tell if it was being away from home, the weather, or the time change, but I felt restless and ready to get back. At 4 a.m., it seemed too early to head out — I didn’t want to show up and accidentally startle my husband — so I showered, got dressed for the two‑hour drive, and settled into the recliner to rest until around seven.

My best friend was in Florida settling into her new home, and I had promised to stop by and check on her cat, my little buddy George, before heading home. When I finally woke up, it was already 7:30. I grabbed my bags, locked up the house, and headed to the car. With no rain in sight, I decided to ride with the top down on my Mini, letting the cool morning air wake me up. I told myself I’d take my time and enjoy the drive.

I headed out Liberty Hill Road toward Hwy 36 and I‑75. As I approached Morgan Dairy Road, I noticed a car flying toward the intersection. They had a stop sign, so I assumed they’d slow down — but they didn’t. I was going about 60 mph, and in that split second, I knew I couldn’t stop. Instinct took over. I accelerated hard, and as I crossed in front of them, I saw their car skidding straight through the stop sign, right beside me.

I kept my eyes forward, stayed steady, and somehow avoided the collision by inches. Once I was safely past the danger, I looked back and saw the other vehicle had recovered and was now on Hwy 36 as well. I took a deep breath, said a prayer, and thanked God for giving me the reaction I needed — and for watching over me. A half‑second difference, and there’s no doubt that person could have ended my life.

As I continued my drive and merged into the Express Lane, I looked ahead and saw a single streak of rainbow dropping from the sky. As I got closer, the entire rainbow stretched across the interstate. If you’ve read my blogs or know my story, you know how deeply meaningful rainbows are to me. In that moment, I knew God, my beautiful angel Nicole, and my mom were all watching over me.

The rest of the trip was smooth and peaceful — aside from a few passing showers — and I made it to see George, then finally home to my husband and my sweet kitty girl, Bella.

Let's Reflect on this:

Moments like these have a way of reminding us just how fragile life is — and how deeply we are protected, even when we don’t realize it. That near‑miss could have changed everything, yet grace stepped in before I even had time to understand what was happening. The rainbow that followed wasn’t just a coincidence; it was a gentle reminder that I’m never walking this journey alone. God’s presence, and the love of those who’ve gone before me, continues to show up in the most unexpected places. I’m grateful for the protection, the signs, and the quiet reassurance that I am watched over, guided, and held — every mile, every moment, every day.

No verse could be truer!

Psalm 91:11

“For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.”
