A Beautiful Miracle - Part 3

Published on 6 May 2023 at 18:04

On March 13, 2023, Matthew had his doctor's appointment with the orthopedic. The doctor was pleased with the surgery done in Hawaii! He gave him orders to have physical therapy 2 times a week for 1 month and then a follow up visit with him.  At this point he is in pain, and they were trying to keep him as comfortable as possible. They literally laughed at the meds he was given and gave him a new prescription for his pain.

March 16, 2023, Physical Therapy has begun!

Matthew had his first physical therapy session this morning. He did better than expected according to his therapist!
He said he thinks we can have Matthew back to climbing towers in 5/6months. He is hoping to be walking pretty good by 6 to 8 weeks and maybe at that time he will be able to return to Hawaii to be with his family and finish out his rehab there.

In the meantime, Matthew has been keeping in touch with his employer. They want him to return to work with. They told him they would put him on a different job which wouldn't require climbing. However, Matthew's end game is to climb again!

The struggles are just beginning. Not only will Matthew be hard at work with his physical therapy, but he also has to figure out how to take care of his family financially while he is unable to work. He can apply for disability, but of course that will take some time to get started, but that the first step.

As Matthew continues his PT, the frustration kicks in. He feels he should be running marathons. The doctor told them that he isn't getting good blood flow to the injury which will take even longer to heal. So, they have been pumping him with calcium and protein. After a month of PT, he is showing signs of getting better! He has only had a couple of short lived ''I'm never going to get better'' moments, but then he is right back to pushing a little harder to get back to his family and job in Hawaii. Their family has been so blessed with all the outpouring of support. Neighbors are providing Abigal and the girls with meals and of course all the donations that have been made have helped greatly!

April 5, 2023, What a Beautiful Miricle!

On this glorious day, Matthew walked without the use of his crutches! What an emotional, yet amazing time this is! If not for all those that have help support this young man, and the dedication of his mother being by his side, this may not have been possible so quickly after his accident! We are all praying that within 3 - 4 weeks, he will have clearance to fly back home!

It was through determination and dedication, that on May 1, 2023, Matthew was able to make the long journey back home to his family! He will still have more PT once he is settled back in at home, but there is no doubt that Matthew will once again climb to the top of another tower! God gave Matthew and his family a Beautiful Miracle! May he continue to heal and make a full recovery!
